Come for a rocky shore ramble while we look to identify as many species as possible to help the Wellington region to show off its amazing biodiversity in the 2024 City Nature Challenge!
Mountains to Sea Wellington, Love Rimurimu, NIWA, and Te Papa are teaming up with the people of Pōneke to identify species in the rock pool and areas around the snorkel trail at Taputeranga marine reserve.
Come and listen, explore, and connect to nature at this whānau friendly event for all ages. Please bring closed shoes, warm layers, and if you’d like to take part in the City Nature Challenge - bring your phone or camera.
About the 2024 City Nature Challenge
The City Nature Challenge is a four-day long competition running from the 26th - 29th of April, as part of the international Global Wildlife Count. By getting involved, you can contribute to a greener, healthier region.
To take part, all you need to do is:
Explore wildlife
Take a photo of what you find
Share it to iNaturalist
Other users and scientists will verify your images or sound recordings.
While the iNaturalist app is not needed to take part, you may want to download it and give it a go! Experts will be there on the day who can tell you more about how this amazing app can be used.
